Light
Bright, indirect light. Variegated forms need strong filtered light to maintain colour.
Watering
Keep lightly moist but never soggy. Do not allow the substrate to fully dry for long periods.
Feeding and fertiliser
Feed every 2–4 weeks during active growth with House Plant Focus at quarter to half strength. Reduce or stop feeding when growth slows.
Potting mix
40% coarse orchid bark, 30% perlite, 20% potting mix, 10% worm castings
Propagation
Corms or cormels, rooted offsets, or rhizome division
Support notes
Self-supporting growth habit. A temporary stake may be used only if a petiole is unstable; climbing support is not required.
Additional care notes
Rare collector form. Pink variegation can vary between leaves and needs stable warmth, humidity and bright indirect light.
Mature size
Usually reaches around 40–120 cm indoors depending on the species or cultivar. Compact jewel types stay smaller, while larger upright forms may exceed 1.5 m in ideal conditions.
Dormancy and winter growth
It has no required dormancy indoors, but Alocasia commonly slows or sheds leaves in cooler, darker conditions. Keep the rhizome warm and avoid overwatering while growth is reduced.
